A born “Nikkei Burajiru-jin”, or simply Japanese Brazilian, Melissa has always been proud of her Oriental roots, despite all the mockery during her whole school years or even the bias from the majority of locals. Since her childhood she adopted more of the Japanese lifestyle rather than the Brazilian one, thanks to the influence of her grandparent, a natural Oriental. She remained a Buddhist, used to eat Japanese food most of time and had quite a busy, productive schedule, organizing her time in basically studies and martial arts training, namely judo and karate, with a few time reserved for fun - basically TV, comics and video games (majorly Japanese ones, as expected). In fact Melissa wasn’t really a popular girl, having just very few friends which she rarely hung out with. At some point that became a concern for her parent and the rest of the Brazilian relatives, which became kind of insistent to try and develop Melissa’s social skills. Nothing really worked, actually, most of the attempts ending up into a bunch of awkward situations. The ‘nikkei’ girl affirmed she was a determined one and knew exactly what she wanted. And she wasn’t saying that just to make people leave her alone. Melissa was decided to be either a writer or a martial arts master on judo or karate (preferably both). About the age of 19 she found out about a superhero who goes by the name ‘Dark Leaf’. After hearing about the fresh hero and his feats she began his biggest fan around, following every news about him and supporting in all ways possible from a continent of distance. Maybe that passion went too far when she decided to look after him personally, willing to move to the Basin County (home of her hero) alleging to her family and friends she wanted better life and work conditions and at the same time go after her dreams of being a renowned writer, judoka or karateka (preferably all of them, one at a time). Knowing how the Asian community there was a prosperous one, her family ended up “buying” the idea. Since then, everything is going as planned for Melissa in her new home. The martial arts training, the studies in general and the search for her hero. As a bonus, she also happened to get a significant social life close enough to what her family wanted for her.
Even if born and raised in Brazil, the Oriental ancestry of Melissa flourished more on her personality. She’s pretty serious, dedicated, studious and with plenty of developed skills for martial arts, but also demonstrates plenty of energy, sympathy and friendliness, only in a lower “rate”. Compared to most of her Asian friends she’s one of the coyest actually. Nobody denies, though, that she’s a pleasurable person to be close to. As well as a good ally in many matters but specially the ones involving fighting.
